Local SEO in Dubai in 2026 comes down to one plan: make your Google Business Profile complete and accurate, make your business details match everywhere they appear in the UAE, and check how Google Maps, AI Overviews and assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini describe you. Clear, consistent facts give Maps and AI answers something reliable to repeat. Patchy ones leave room for a competitor.
This matters now because people are asking full questions instead of typing two words. Google launched Ask Maps in March 2026, a conversational feature that, in Google's words, "answers complex, real-world questions" and draws on information about more than 300 million places and reviews from over 500 million contributors. In August 2026 Google said Ask Maps was rolling out in over 150 countries and territories in English. Google did not list those countries one by one, so it has not said in that post whether the UAE is included; open Maps on your own phone and look for the Ask Maps button. Separately, SEMA Insights reports that AI Overviews became broadly available across the Middle East and North Africa in 2025 with Arabic support, and that AI Mode followed in English and later Modern Standard Arabic.
Below is a Dubai-specific plan you can work through in a few weeks. Nothing in it guarantees a position. As the Dubai agency Divalos puts it in its September 2026 local SEO guide, "Rankings are an input, not the outcome."
Start with an accurate Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile (the free listing shown in Maps and local search results) is your most important local asset. Google says local results depend mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and Divalos notes Google documents no UAE-specific ranking factors. Accuracy is where you have most control.
- Name: use your real trading name as it appears on your signage and website. Do not add keywords such as "Best Dentist Dubai" to the name.
- Address: use the exact building and area, spelled the same everywhere. If you do not serve customers at your office, common in shared or free-zone offices, set a service area instead.
- Phone: list a number that is answered, and show your WhatsApp route if customers use it.
- Website link: point to the most relevant page. Divalos suggests UTM tags (labels on the link) so analytics shows profile visits separately.
Example: a property firm with staffed offices in Business Bay and Dubai South needs a separate, accurate profile for each. Our multi-location local SEO guide covers the structure.
Check afterwards: open your profile in Maps on a phone and read it as a stranger would.
Choose Google Business Profile categories and services the way customers search
Your primary category tells Google what you are. Pick the most specific one that describes your main business, then add only secondary categories that are genuinely true. A dental clinic that also does cosmetic treatments can add a relevant secondary category; a clinic that once ran a whitening promotion should not.
The Divalos guide recommends naming services on your profile exactly as on your website. If your site says "Laser hair removal" and your profile says "Hair reduction treatments", pick one wording for both.
Example: a JLT salon lists "Keratin treatment" and "Bridal makeup" with the same names as its service page headings.
Check afterwards: put your profile's service list next to your website's navigation. Any service that appears in one place and not the other is a gap to close.
Keep opening hours honest, including Ramadan and public holidays
Wrong hours lose customers who found you on Maps. Set regular hours, then use special hours for Ramadan timings, Eid and other public holidays, which the Divalos checklist calls out specifically.
Google's August 2026 update also lets Ask Maps users suggest edits, such as new hours, by chat or photo, starting in the U.S. Your own profile should already be correct so nobody else has to fix it.
Example: a Deira restaurant that opens later and stays open past midnight during Ramadan should enter those as special hours before the month starts, not after customers arrive to a closed door.
Check afterwards: set a calendar reminder two weeks before Ramadan and each public holiday to update special hours, and confirm the change shows on Maps.
Use photos and reviews to give Maps something real to work with
Google says Ask Maps draws on reviews and "insider tips from real people", so what customers write is part of how you are described.
- Photos: add recent, real photos of your entrance, interior and team. The entrance matters in Dubai, where many businesses sit inside towers or malls.
- Reviews: ask after a real service, for example with a short WhatsApp message and a direct link. Never pay or offer discounts for reviews; Divalos notes incentivised or fake reviews breach Google's policy.
- Replies: reply specifically, and answer complaints calmly. Our post on reputation management mistakes covers the difficult ones.
Check afterwards: read your last 20 reviews. If they never mention the services you most want to be known for, change who you ask and when.
Make your business details match across UAE directories and platforms
Consistency is the part most Dubai businesses skip. Your name, address, phone number, hours and description should match on your website, your Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, the UAE business directories and review platforms you are listed on, delivery and booking apps, and any partner or press mentions.
Dubai adds a twist. As the Divalos guide points out, many businesses have three names: a free-zone or legal entity name, a trading name and a brand name. Decide which one customers see, use it everywhere public, and make it clear on your About page how the others relate. Otherwise an AI assistant reading a trade licence listing and your Instagram bio may conclude they are two different businesses.
Divalos also suggests a reusable description formula: who you are, what you do, who you serve, where you operate (Dubai, the UAE or the GCC), and why you are credible. A Dubai Marina physiotherapy clinic could write one two-sentence description this way and use it on its profile, website, LinkedIn and health directories.
Check afterwards: keep a simple sheet listing every platform where you appear, with the exact name, address, phone and description on each. Fix mismatches one row at a time. Avoid bulk directory submission services; Divalos lists them among the tactics to avoid.
Plan Arabic and English listings by demand, not by default
Whether you need Arabic depends on your customers. Divalos notes that a B2B software firm selling to international teams may need mainly English, while a clinic, real estate developer or government-facing supplier may see real Arabic demand.
- Research Arabic search terms for your services first.
- Where demand exists, build dedicated Arabic pages written or reviewed by a fluent speaker, with a right-to-left layout and hreflang tags (code that tells Google which page is for which language).
- Do not publish machine translations. SEMA Insights says the copy "should not feel like a translated duplicate."
Example: an Al Barsha family clinic adds Arabic pages for its five most searched services and uses one Arabic spelling of its name everywhere.
Check afterwards: search your main service in Arabic and in English on Google and Maps. Note whether you appear in each, and whether the information shown is correct in both languages.
Answer the questions people ask Maps and AI assistants
Ask Maps and AI Mode are built for longer questions. Google's Ask Maps examples include a lit tennis court open tonight, or a cosy restaurant with a table for four. Dubai customers ask things like "Which dental clinic near JLT is open on Saturday evening?" Google has not said exactly which fields Ask Maps reads, so make sure the answers exist in public, in plain words:
- Put parking, accessibility, languages spoken, payment and insurance details, booking options and delivery areas on your profile where the fields allow, and on your website.
- Add a short frequently asked questions section to each key service page, with direct answers. SEMA Insights recommends answering the buying decision, such as price ranges, Arabic support and how the service works, rather than writing around a keyword.
- Keep the answers consistent between your site, your profile and your replies to reviews.
For the content side of this, our checklist on getting cited in Google AI Mode goes into page structure in more detail.
Check afterwards: write down the ten questions your front desk hears most. Each one should have a clear answer somewhere on your website or profile.
Check how AI answers describe your business
You cannot control what an AI assistant says, but you can watch it. The Divalos guide describes a 30-minute audit that needs no paid tool:
- Run customer-style prompts in Google (including AI Mode where available), ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, such as "best [service] in Dubai", "[service] company Dubai" and "alternatives to [competitor] in UAE".
- Record whether your business appears, how it is described, which competitors appear, which sources are cited, and whether the facts are correct.
- Repeat monthly with the same prompts.
Treat the results as directional. AI answers vary by user, location, wording and time; as Divalos notes, "single screenshots are not evidence of lasting visibility."
According to the same guide, Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode need no special optimisation beyond normal SEO best practice, which our post on AI Overviews and SEO in 2026 covers.
Check afterwards: when an answer gets a fact wrong, look at its cited sources and correct any outdated listing you control.
How to check whether local SEO in Dubai is working
Use a mix of Google's own reports and simple manual checks, every month:
- Business Profile performance: review calls, website clicks, direction requests and searches shown in your profile's performance view, and compare month on month.
- Google Search Console: in the Performance report, filter by country to the UAE and look at queries and pages. Watch for growth in non-brand searches (people looking for the service, not your name), which SEMA Insights lists as a key measure.
- Manual Maps checks: search your top three services on a phone from your area, in English and in Arabic where relevant, and note where you appear.
- AI answer log: repeat your monthly prompts and note any changes in how you are described.
- Leads: Divalos recommends recording the source of calls, WhatsApp chats, forms and bookings in your CRM (customer relationship management system), including clicks and calls from your profile. Qualified enquiries by source is the number that matters most.
On timing, Divalos says there is no fixed timeline: profile fixes can show quickly, while competitive categories take longer. If you are an Indian business setting up in the UAE, our guide for Indian brands expanding to Dubai covers the wider launch plan.
Frequently asked questions
How do I rank higher on Google Maps in Dubai?
Choose the most accurate primary category, keep every profile detail correct, earn genuine reviews, link to a strong page on your website and build credible mentions from UAE sources. Google says local results depend mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. Nobody can guarantee a specific position.
Is Ask Maps available in the UAE?
Google said in August 2026 that Ask Maps was rolling out in over 150 countries and territories in English, but it did not name them individually. The simplest check is to update Google Maps on your phone and look for the Ask Maps button. Features such as food ordering were rolling out in the U.S. first.
Do I need an Arabic Google Business Profile and website?
It depends on your customers. Clinics, real estate developers and government-facing suppliers often see Arabic demand, while firms selling to international teams may need mainly English. Research Arabic search terms first, and if demand exists, use pages written or reviewed by a fluent speaker rather than machine translation.
Can I make ChatGPT or Gemini recommend my business?
Not directly. You can make your business facts clear, consistent and well supported across your website, profile, directories and credible mentions, which gives AI answers accurate information to use. Monitor the results monthly with the same prompts, and treat them as a trend rather than a fixed ranking.
